About NPC Essentials Training

Take this training opportunity to refresh, refine, and reinforce your knowledge of NPC operations, finance, HR, governance as well as our relationship with VA including STAR, NPPO and Ethics. Your experienced colleagues will assist you in this interactive learning environment to straighten out any pre-conceived notions and pitfalls.

This time we are hosting our NPC Essentials Training in San Diego, CA! There will be an informal reception on Wednesday, March 15th at 5:30 PM for early birds into San Diego. The first day of training begins on Thursday, March 16th at 8:00 AM and concludes on Friday, March 17th at 12:00 PM.

If your organization is a current member of NAVREF, there will be no charge for the NPC Essentials Training other than your travel expenses, i.e., flight, per diem and hotel. 

The NPC Essentials Training is kept small and informal to facilitate learning points between presenters as well as participants. This training is designed for executive directors and senior staff members with less than 5 years of experience, however, all are welcome! Several topics will be discussed including/but not limited to NPC operations, HR, governance, and finances. Presenters from STAR, Ethics, and NPPO will be present to round out the curriculum.

Wednesday, March 15th - 5:30 PMInformal Reception

A fun opportunity for early birds to meet your colleagues. This event will take place at the hotel lobby bar. Great if you make it, but no sweat if you can't!


Thursday, March 16th - 8 AM to 5 PMDay 1 of Training

Day 1 is a full 8 hour day of instruction. Both breakfast and lunch will be provided by NAVREF.


Friday, March 17th - 8 AM to 12 PMDay 2 of Training

Day 2 is a half day of training and will conclude by noon. Breakast will be provided by NAVREF. We'll also take a class picture at the end so please don't book your flight home too early!

  • Hotel reservation information will be found in your confirmation email as well as on the confirmation page after you hit the submit button. 
  • Presentation materials and a basic agenda will be sent out by ONE WEEK PRIOR to the event.
  • Breakfast will be provided daily and lunch will be provided on the first day of training. 
  • THIS TRAINING HAS LIMITED SEATING SO PLEASE REGISTER ONLY IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING. A WAITLIST IS AUTOMATICALLY TRIGGERED ONCE ALL SEATS ARE FILLED.
